The Chita Distillery

The Chita Distillery

In the area of the Japanese prefecture of Aichi, the Chita peninsula and its surroundings are known for their history in the art of fermentation and distillation. Chita, The House of Suntory's innovative grain whiskey distillery, stands surrounded by gently rolling hills and the serene atmosphere of the sea.

Suntory's Chita distillery makes three types of grain whiskey from corn, unlike most distilleries, which only produce one type. Aging in the unique climate and natural conditions of Omi and Hakushu, and the use of American white oak casks, further contributes to the incredible range of flavors presented by Chita grain whiskeys, which have only recently reached the level of complexity and depth demanded by the house's prodigious standards.

The House of Suntory is a house of Japanese artisans crafting premium spirits inspired by Japanese nature and masterfully executed with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. In addition to our luxury brands Yamazaki, Hakushu, Chita, and Hibiki, we also offer Suntory Whisky Toki, Roku Gin, and Haku Vodka as premium options. We do more than create high-quality spirits; we embody Japanese philosophy and traditions that are a true expression of everything we make.

At House of Suntory, we have been pioneers of fine Japanese whisky since 1923, and we invite you to celebrate this exciting milestone with us. The House of Suntory was built on a singular dream: its founder, Shinjiro Torii, wanted to enrich the lives of the Japanese people, so he became an entrepreneur, manufacturer, and craftsman. Inspired by the riches of Japan's nature, he chose the Yamazaki region for its renowned soft water, unique climate, and beautiful seasons, all of which would contribute to the distinctive Japanese character of Suntory whiskies.

Shinjiro achieved his dream of "creating an original Japanese whisky blessed with the riches of Japanese nature and monozukuri craftsmanship." Today, that vision continues, and The House of Suntory now represents a House of Japanese Culture: a rich experience and a tribute to Japan in every bottle, ready to be discovered by the world as we enter our second millennium.
