This wine embodies the refined essence of the Eola-Amity Hills terroir, in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley. Sourced from a unique parcel within the Cristom estate, the Marjorie vineyard, named after the founder's mother, this Pinot Noir is a deeply personal and meticulously crafted expression. The Marjorie parcel is distinguished by its orientation, slope, and soil composition, with volcanic and clay influences that provide the vines with ideal conditions for producing grapes of exceptional quality.
Originally planted in the 1990s, the Marjorie vineyard combines older vines with newer, massal-selected plantings and specific Pinot Noir clones, managed using sustainable and biodynamic farming practices. Production is limited and highly controlled, making each vintage a special edition, reflecting both the weather year and the commitment of Cristom's winemaking team, led by Steve Doerner, with decades of experience and a philosophy of minimal intervention.
The 2021 vintage was particularly remarkable in the Willamette Valley, with weather conditions that allowed for slow and complete ripening of the fruit. This resulted in a harvest where perfectly balanced grapes could be worked with, yielding a wine of distinctive character, concentration, and elegance.
More than a Pinot Noir, this wine is a bottled narrative of the Marjorie vineyard: a story of family, land, and time, embodied in a label that represents one of the most prestigious emblems of American Pinot Noir.
