Tasting notes

Appearance

In the glass it appears with a beautiful pale golden yellow color, clean and bright, which anticipates its complexity and elegance.

Nose

On the nose it displays precise and seductive aromas: notes of ripe white fruit such as peach and pear, light citrus touches of lemon peel and memories of white flowers. As it opens, delicate nuances of fresh butter, nuts such as hazelnut and a mineral background emerge that provide depth and character.

Palate

In the mouth it is broad, enveloping and vibrant. Its creamy texture is balanced with a fresh acidity that gives it tension and lengthens the finish. It stands out for its harmony between fruit and the subtle notes of barrel aging, leaving a pleasant mineral and saline sensation that invites you to continue drinking.

Description

The Millton Clos de Ste. Anne “Naboth's Vineyard” is Millton's flagship white wine, sourced from a historic plot planted around 1993 on steep, northeast-facing terraces of sedimentary limestone marl, volcanic ash, and pumice in Gisborne, New Zealand—the first vineyard in the world to receive sunlight each day. .

This plot, called “Naboth’s Vineyard”, is part of the prestigious Clos de Ste. Anne, a family-owned “grand cru” founded by James and Annie Millton in 1984, who have since implemented organic and biodynamic practices (Bio-Gro certifications since 1986 and Demeter since 2009), using dry cultivation, without herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. .

With a density of approximately 4,000 vines per hectare, worked by hand weeding and manual harvesting, Naboth's Vineyard is characterized by shallow, aerated soils that cause competition between vines, as well as natural fermentation in barrels with native yeasts and aging for ten months on lees .

The 2021 vintage (and previous years) have received high scores from specialist critics and consumers for their purity and minerality: for example, Raymond Chan rated the 2021 at 19/20, highlighting its energy, weight and fine mineral line .

This wine represents a meticulous solution: from the pioneering, biointegrity vineyard to its natural aging. It stands as the most authentic reflection of Gisborne's warm and windy terroir, in a style that combines elegance, structure, and luminosity.
