Tasting notes

Nose

At first, quite smooth, with clean and fresh notes, faint touches of milk chocolate and lemon, which then develop a fragrant smoke with a tea aroma, along with maritime aromas that dry the nose and a subtle touch of cereal. An itch, seen above, develops, while the characteristic dryness of Lagavulin emerges like fresh newspaper. Gently sooty. Softer, fuller and rounder with water: it's not overly fruity, but there is a touch of red fruit jam, perhaps, under the smokiness, which stands out clearly.

Palate

Light body, with a pleasantly oily texture. A light, comforting texture, with a gorgeously intense Lagavulin flavour, even more intense than you'd expect: sweet, smoky and comforting, with a growing smoky punch, then dry, with more smoke. Burnt, with minty dark chocolate. A perfectly balanced palate, then salty, with roasted potato skins and smoke. The water rounds out the flavor, still powerful, but more succulent, sweeter, spicier and now tingling on the tongue, fresh and comforting with mint. Delicious finish; clean, very long and smoky. Gently, a subtle minty smoke envelops the chocolate tannins, leaving a dry note that emerges over time. It's warm, smooth and still watery smoky, not as long or intense now, but still leaves the palate dry as the sweet smoke lingers on the breath.

Description

A celebration of the people and craftsmanship that have made Lagavulin great over the past two centuries, its fragrant tea-scented smoke, along with nose-drying maritime aromas, is released with just a drop of water.

Inspired by Alfred Barnard's visit to the distillery in the 1880s, when he tasted an "exceptionally fine" eight-year-old whiskey from the distillery, this is a fitting tribute to the milestone.

With a light body that turns pleasantly oily, the Lagavulin 8 Years on the palate boasts a magnificent full Lagavulin flavor that is somehow even bigger than you expect. The impeccable limited edition presentation box makes it the perfect gift for lovers of peaty and powerful whiskeys.
