Tasting notes

Appearance

Deep red color with purple reflections. High layer and shiny appearance, which suggests concentration and youth despite the passage of time.

Nose

Complex and well-integrated aromas, where black fruits such as plum and currant stand out, along with notes of graphite, leather, sweet spices and a mineral background typical of Red Mountain. The aging provides subtle touches of toasted oak, tobacco and cocoa.

Palate

Powerful and elegant at the same time. Firm entry, with marked but polished tannins, balanced acidity and a silky texture. The palate unfolds with layers of ripe fruit, spices, moist earth and balsamic notes. Long, tasty finish with great capacity for evolution in the bottle.

Description

The Andrew Will Ciel du Cheval 2017 is a single-vineyard wine that reflects the distinctive character of the Ciel du Cheval vineyard, located in the acclaimed Red Mountain appellation in Washington State. This area is renowned for producing some of the most structured, long-lived, and expressive wines in the American Northwest, thanks to its warm climate, volcanic soils, and excellent drainage.

The 2017 cuvée is a Bordeaux blend that varies in proportions each vintage, but is typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, accompanied by small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Andrew Will crafts this wine with a minimalist approach, allowing the fruit, soil, and climate to speak for themselves. Vinification is carried out separately for each variety, followed by careful aging in mostly used French oak to preserve the wine's purity and refine its structure.

Ciel du Cheval 2017 is a prime example of Andrew Will's philosophy: to create wines that are both precise and enduring, focused on expressing the terroir. It is a serious, refined wine with aging potential, ideal for those seeking the authenticity of the Red Mountain terroir at its finest.
