Description
Mauro Magnum 1.5L 2024 is the flagship wine of Bodegas Mauro, founded in 1980 by the legendary winemaker Mariano García in the Castilian town of Tudela de Duero (Valladolid), in tribute to his father. A project that began two years before the Ribera del Duero DO was established and, due to geographical boundaries, fell outside the designation, being marketed under the IGP Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León. An irony of fate that makes Mauro one of Spain's great red wines outside of any designation.
Mariano García was the technical director of Vega Sicilia for 30 years. With that experience, he founded his own family project in Tudela de Duero, where he owns 55 hectares of vineyards spread across Tudela de Duero and Santibáñez de Valcorba. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, are planted on light, well-draining clay-limestone soils at an altitude of 760 meters, subjected to a harsh continental climate with cold winters and warm, dry summers. The vineyard is cultivated organically, without herbicides and with full respect for beneficial wildlife.
Mauro 2024 is a blend of 90-95% Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) and 5-10% Syrah, fermented separately by variety and plot in 12,000-liter conical stainless steel tanks, using gravity throughout the process to avoid pumping and preserve the raw material as much as possible. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, with macerations lasting 2 to 3 weeks depending on the characteristics of the harvest. The wine ages for 15-16 months in French oak (75%) and American oak (25%) barrels, with 20% of the barrel stock replaced annually. Finally bottled with natural egg whites, unfiltered.
Of an intense ruby-red color with violet reflections. On the nose, complex and opulent: ripe black fruits such as blackberry and plum, with elegant spicy and balsamic notes and a subtle touch of well-integrated fine wood. On the palate, it is broad, elegant, and enveloping, with ripe, polished tannins, good acidity that provides freshness and structure, and a long, harmonious, and persistent finish. A red wine of depth, balance, and character that asserts the identity of the Castilian terroir.
The 1.5-liter Magnum format is ideal for sharing at special tables and promotes a slower, more elegant evolution in the bottle, with great aging potential. Serving temperature: 16-18°C. Ideal for grilled red meats, hearty stews, game, roast lamb, and aged cheeses.
