Description

It was around 1630 when Maté Szepsi Lacko, a Calvinist preacher, produced the first "Tokaj tear wine" (Tokaj Aszú). He offered it to Princess Susanna Lorántffy, wife of George Ráckózci, First Prince of Transylvania, on the occasion of the Easter holidays as a token of gratitude for the attention the princess had shown to her subjects in Tokaj. The unique gift was made from grapes grown in the Oremus vineyard and by 1772, when the first classification of vineyards in the world was established, it was already recognised as primae classis.
