Vía Romana is a commitment to quality, care and know-how of a family tradition since the first harvest in 1998, with special care in offering the essence of the land where our vines grow.
Vía Romana, the wine that doesn't understand rush, our letter of introduction and our way of life, a wine to drink with friends, family, calmly, just as it was made. Our philosophy of life, the slow life that thinks and keeps in mind that the most important things in life should be done without rushing!...
The extraordinary characteristics of the Ribeira Sacra for the production of high-quality wines are already testified by the cultivation of the vine by the Romans in the 1st century AD, the first who knew how to see in this exceptional enclave a place to plant their vineyards, overcoming a difficult but privileged orography.
These terraces joined by stairs convert the work here into what is known as heroic viticulture, being 100% manual, but the result shows us that it is worth it.
The Ribeira Sacra, an area of winemaking tradition, has an area of 1,550 hectares of vineyards, which represents 5.2% of the land dedicated to vines in Galicia. The D.O Ribeira Sacra is fundamentally oriented towards the production of red wines, also producing very interesting white wines.
Vía Romana has 16 hectares of its own vineyard, with trellis formation, located on slopes located in the valleys and ravines of the river, characterized by producing limited harvests of grapes with very concentrated flavors. The harvest is carried out completely manually, accessed through paths and, sometimes, even by the river itself, defying vertigo from the terraces, exercising heroic viticulture.
One of the characteristics that the Ribeira Sacra offers is what is already known as heroic viticulture. Term assigned by the conditions of the terrain that especially complicate work with the vines and that make winegrowers and winemakers challenge vertigo from the terraces, many of them with slopes that can reach 100%, thus preventing mechanization.
The work is 100% manual and very selective, the yield per vine does not exceed 3 Kg, which makes it possible for us to offer unique wines of exceptional quality.
The plots are influenced by a climate with Mediterranean tendencies, good temperatures and low humidity, little rainfall and thermoregulatory river action with long, hot summers and mild autumns, perfect for the ripening of our grapes. The winds blow strongly in the area, helped by the shape of the valleys, all of these characteristics are what give our wines that character. Its terrain, mainly sandy loam, an average altitude of 350 meters and southeast-facing vineyards, together with a slope of around 75%, form the perfect set for the vines, aged between 12 and 60 years, to offer grapes of extraordinary quality.
