In 1918, Eddie Tatham, a friend of the family of James Anderson (a member of the J&B board), joined the company and was soon offered the position of advisor. Tatham visited the US during Prohibition and came up with the idea of creating J&B Rare, with the American public in mind for when Prohibition ended.
Then Tatham met a blender named Charlie Julian, renowned for his keen sense of smell, refined palate, and instinctive understanding of what consumers wanted. Together, Tatham and Julian began the blending process for J&B Rare, which culminated in a complex blend of 42 malt and grain whiskies.
Today, J&B celebrates its more than 250 years of history and is famous among customers all over the world.
